We knew it would happen eventually. We scored a wonderful sunny, calm and warm race day! 36 racers took advantage at this season’s Skyway Skuffle, Race #2 of the Empowered Energy Systems Race Series. This 10K was a freestyle race but there were a number of classic skiers competing and enjoying the great tracks. The grooming crew had done an excellent job getting the course into primo shape as the fast race times would indicate. It was really nice to see a team of high school racers show up all the way from Fort Collins as well as our usual mix of racers from around the region. The word is out about our top notch conditions and terrain!
Brodie Morrison, one of those young racers, proved to be the fastest but he was pushed by the others in the top 5 who all came in pretty close together. The fastest woman was Tracy Pihl who was able to hold off a couple of young woman skiers. Always impressive is our usual contingent of 60 and 70 year olds still going strong. Great job everyone!
We love REI, Loki Outerwear, Ela Family Farms and Octopus Coffee for door prizes but especially Chill Switch Wines for two bottles of their tasty sparkling Moscato just in time for New Year’s Eve! And, of course, we love Empowered Energy Systems who are our race series enablers and our dedicated crew of volunteers who make it all happen. Now on to 2024 and more fun ski racing!
