The Mesa Meltdown capped the 2024/2025 Empowered Energy Systems Ski Race Series in competitive fashion and this season’s winners were crowned. Meghan Kent, the female winner, left the field in the dust while Kevin Koch had to use this final race to make a come from behind leap over previous leader Russel Bollig. Kevin’s 4th place finish in the 20K is what did it for him. Andrew Siegel maintained a narrow lead over Egor Gavrilov throughout the race to take 1st place. Ella DeWolf skied to an impressive 5th place finish overall and won for women. Brooke Bosman followed her for women’s 2nd and a solid 8th overall. Bill Cessnun won the “grit” award for plugging through to the finish in this challenging 20K. Cold snow and a little headwind made it tough for everyone but a heavy dose of sunshine and some zippy chile at the finish helped a lot.
Meghan and Kevin each won a jacket from Loki Outerwear for their efforts. Thanks to Loki for many years of donating these wonderful Series prizes and, of course, a huge thanks goes to Empowered Energy Systems for sponsoring the Series. Lucky racers took home great door prizes provided by Stoney Mesa Winery, Loki, Chill Switch Wines, Ela Family Farms, Bob Major, Enstrom’s Toffee, Basecamp Brewery and Gear Junction plus someone got to take home a gorgeous mounted photo from Ken Pill. See you all in December when ski racing on Grand Mesa resumes!
