It’s October 30 and we have a foot of snow at Skyway/County Line! Our official grooming operations do not begin until opening day, November 15, but between now and then we will be doing some snow prep to get the trails ready for the season. This will consist of packing the snow where possible to help it consolidate into a firm base. We will not be setting classic tracks yet. The purpose here is pre-season trail prep, not setting a perfect surface. Please set your expectations accordingly. This map shows the trails that were packed on Oct 30. We won’t go out again until we get more snow.

Until November 15, you may encounter other users on the trails, especially Scales Lake Rd (Forest Service crews, workers servicing the tower or reservoirs). Please be courteous. The skiing is pretty decent for this early, but you should expect to encounter obstacles. Don’t take your best skis out yet.

All that said, grab your rock skis and enjoy this early season snow. Halloween skiing, it’s a GMNC tradition! And if you like what we’re doing, take a moment to renew your membership or make an extra donation.
